Crestwood

Crestwood

The City of Crestwood is a mature suburban community located in the desirable southwestern portion of St. Louis County, Missouri, in the heart of the St. Louis metropolitan region. Crestwood is a community with approximately 12,000 residents and a median household income of $54,000.  We are located within the award winning Lindbergh School district.

Located just east of the interchange of Interstates I-270 (the major north-south beltway in St. Louis County) and IH-44, (one of three main east-west arteries), the City is easily reached from all directions. Several major state and county maintained arterial roadways bisect the City providing additional traffic routes. One of these arteries, Historic Route 66, also known as Watson Road, is home to the City’s commercial shopping district. The City’s location near IH-44 provides easy access to downtown St. Louis and Lambert International Airport in less than thirty minutes.

NEIGHBORHOODS

The City’s residential areas offer a wide selection of single-family housing, the majority of which was built in the mid to late 1960s. These homes have consistently shown an impressive ability to maintain and increase their value as they age, and are located in stable, safe neighborhoods. In 1997, the City successfully annexed an additional 1,600 residents residing in an unincorporated area to the southeast. The City has begun to experience an increase in “infill” pocket subdivisions of five to twenty housing units with market prices exceeding $400,000.

A CITY EVOLVING

With the demographic changes slowly evolving, the City is planning for the future. The City has spent over $11 million dollars reconstructing and rehabilitating subdivision and City maintained feeder and arterial streets. Well over half of City maintained streets have been addressed through the City’s street reconstruction/rehabilitation program. This program is funded entirely by a ½-cent Capital Improvements sales tax. More than ninety percent (90%) of this revenue is generated by non-residents who shop in the City’s commercial district.

In August of 2000, City voters approved a ½-cent sales tax increase to fund major improvements to all City parks and to provide funding for stormwater control programs. The Crestwood Aquatic Center at Whitecliff Park was one result of this sales tax, and opened in July of 2002 to rave reviews from Crestwood residents of all ages.
